Jack was a rescue dog. I saved him on his last day in a high kill shelter where he was scheduled to be put down. He was only 6 months old and skin and bones. He turned 10 in April 2020. In March, the week that the shelter in place order came down in California, he had to have emergency surgery on his spine because he was losing the functioning in his back legs and it was determined he had a severely compressed disc in his spine. The stress of that time compounded with the stress of not knowing if my job was considered essential and worrying about the health and safety of my family with Covid-19 was extremely difficult for me to be away from Jack, knowing he was in the hospital. We got him home and he started doing better, but then during one of his many follow up appointments it was discovered that Jack was deteriorating in his functioning of his rear legs instead of improving. Tests were done and they learned he has a Neurodegenerative Disease that will ultimately paralyze him and I learned my time left with him is limited. Fast forward to July 2020, Jack stopped eating. At first it was slowly, eating less and less so I gave him scrambled eggs or shredded chicken mixed in with his dog food, and then that stopped working too. So, I did my research and picked up some Freshpet for Jack. For the first time in weeks, Jack ate his food. I cried as I watched him finish his bowl of food like he was the healthy young pup I know he is at heart. He has been eating his food regularly and without fuss since being on Freshpet. My goal is to keep him happy and comfortable (with lots of treats) but he needs to be able to eat too, and thanks to Freshpet, I don’t have to worry about that anymore. Thank you so much Freshpet for making something to support my baby boy (and me) during this time in his life.
