C’s Story

When we were given our cat by our neighbors who needed to remove him he was eating dry cat food. Right away we realized that no matter how or when we fed him he would inhale his food and then puke it right back up. This is our first cat and not knowing what to do to help him I turned to the internet, which gave me plenty of ideas to try. Apparently scarf and barf is a common habit of cats, so there were many suggestions. We tried putting a ceramic ball in his food dish (made for pets who have this problem) which causes them to work around the ball to get the food, thus eating more slowly. He quickly figured out how to scoop out the food with his paws, so that plan was thwarted. Then we tried a specially made "puzzle dish" which makes them have to reach inside some deep hole to get the food. This worked for a while until he figured out how to remove the lid. Foiled again! And on it went like this. the other problem was that he would be excessively thirsty after keeping the food down and then guzzle up a bunch of water which would swell the food in his belly, and then more puking. It was a constant problem day in and day out. our vet just said it's normal, but we weren't satisfied with our new pet vomiting all over our house so I kept searching for a solution. I began reading abut how cats digest their food and what their bodies are designed to eat and there were many recommendations for feeding fresh food, and after much searching I found this brand in our local supermarket. Almost immediately upon switching to Freshpet our kittys scarf and barf and water guzzling habits stopped! He seems to love the flavor of the food and digests it without problems. Since it contains so much moisture he isn't chronically thirsty all the time, eliminating the secondary barfing as well. He only vomits now if he just really inhales his food way too fast, but it's not that often. His coat is also nice and shiny and he has gained weight and kept it on, where he stayed underweight on the dry food. I cannot recommend this food enough, and I'm so thankful I found it. I do have trouble finding the chicken and beef variety which is the one he likes, but my Publix has offered to order me a case each month, which solves that problem. So thank you Freshpet for making our pet a much happier, healthy kitty!
