Oscar’s Story

Oscar is my young-at-heart 9 year old Labrador retriever. When he was 4 years old, he started gaining weight at a rapid pace. When he was 6 years old, he weighed 140 lbs. Our vet warned us that his weight was a great danger to his health. At the time, he was eating the recommended portion of dry dog food. I tried prescription dog food and exercises, as well as cutting back on treats. He still continued to struggle with his weight and mobility was becoming an issue. I would take him to the dog park, and he was too fat to run around and play with the other dogs, while other pet parents would make remarks about the “fat dog”. This truly broke my heart. Frustrated with his continuing struggles and lack of results, I tried Freshpet. Within a month of starting on Freshpet, I could see a noticeable difference, not only in his weight, but his overall mood and activity level. 6 moths after starting Freshpet, he was down 30 lbs! One year after Freshpet, he was down 45lbs to a HEALTHY WEIGHT OF 95 LBS!!! All the while eating satisfying portions. Don’t get me wrong, the weight loss is great, but what is truly remarkable is his new lease on life. He’s once again able to run and play with other dogs, swim in the pool, and jump on the bed. He’s no longer gassy, and drinks 1/3 the amount of water he used to drink. I truly believe Freshpet has added many healthy years to his life. Last year. I had to honor to have him as my best man in my wedding. Had he continued his diet of dry dog food, I can’t say for sure if he would’ve been able to do so.
